Kyambogo University’s Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Department of Geography invites you to a Public Lecture on GIS and Earth Observation Systems through the Digital Earth Africa Learning Platform. This engaging session will introduce participants to Earth observation technologies, data-driven decision-making, and practical applications in various sectors.

The Digital Earth Africa Learning Platform provides an interactive environment where participants will:

  • Learn the significance of Earth observations.
  • Explore Digital Earth Africa datasets through an interactive map.
  • Gain insights into Python coding for spatial analysis.
  • Understand how Earth observation (EO) data is transforming decision-making in areas such as resource management, food security, and urbanization.

Note: A laptop is required for demonstrations.

Previous Event Highlights

On 22nd October 2024, Digital Earth Africa, represented by Kenneth Mubea, conducted a training session for Master’s and PhD students at the Department of Geography, Kyambogo University. Organized by Prof. Bernard Barasa, this session focused on GIS and Earth Observation Systems. The training aimed to equip postgraduate students with the necessary technical skills to enhance their research projects and dissertations.

This lecture is part of a series of training sessions designed to bridge the technical capacity gap in Earth observation across Africa and empower the continent’s future leaders in spatial sciences. The event was widely recognized for its impact in advancing GIS and Earth observation knowledge among students.
