Kyambogo University’s Master of Arts in History, a pioneering program since 2001, has undergone a comprehensive review to align with the National Council of Higher Education curriculum guidelines. This two-year coursework and dissertation-based program reflects a commitment to international standards and meets the evolving needs of Uganda’s academic landscape. The curriculum has been refined to encompass new courses, align with university codes, and address contemporary themes. As a response to global educational trends, the program places a strong emphasis on gendered African history.

General Objective:

The overarching objective of the Master of Arts in History is to produce graduates with profound knowledge, skills, and ethical practices in the discipline. This program aims to contribute to societal development, particularly in the realm of higher education.

Specific Objectives:

  1. Equip graduates with the knowledge and skills in history necessary to navigate and contribute to a rapidly changing society.

  2. Develop candidates’ abilities to identify, analyze, and solve complex problems in the field of history through rigorous research activities.

  3. Foster skills in research methods, enabling candidates to conduct independent scholarly research that enriches the pool of historical knowledge.

  4. Cultivate intellectual, ethical, and practical skills, stimulating personal academic growth and professional development.

  5. Create a pool of human resources to meet the country’s demands, especially in Higher Education.

Target Group:

This program is designed for graduates holding a Bachelor of Arts in Arts or Social Science, a Bachelor of Arts with Education, or a Bachelor of Education with a focus on history.

In addition to the Kyambogo University General Regulations, the minimum qualification for the MA (History) shall be at least a second-class lower in Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Arts in Education, Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences, and Bachelor of Education with a major in History.
