Kyambogo University introduces the Master of Musical Arts with Education (MMAE) program, a dynamic initiative stemming from the merger and review of existing music education programs in the Department of Performing Arts.
With a legacy of producing accomplished music educators, the university initiated the Master of Music Education program in 2015. This program has been pivotal in advancing the academic horizons of graduates seeking expertise in music education and related fields.
The MMAE program responds to Uganda’s evolving Teacher Education Policy, bridging the gap for music teachers to progress from bachelor’s to graduate level. With the establishment of the Uganda National Institute of Teacher Education (UNITE), the program strategically meets the demand for skilled music educators and lecturers, aligning with national initiatives for cultural diversity and economic growth.

General Objective: To produce robust music education graduates capable of transforming the teaching and learning of music at different educational levels.
Specific Objectives:
- Examine psychological and philosophical foundations to facilitate learning of musical arts.
- Design, manage, and assess musical arts curricula at various education levels.
- Conduct research to enhance the development of musical arts and music education.
- Apply practical knowledge, skills, and values in teaching all performing arts, integrating ICT in education.
- Foster professional, ethical, and entrepreneurial skills in music, nurturing learners’ life skills and a love for lifelong learning.
Target Group: The MMAE program targets applicants holding various qualifications related to music and education, including Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Performing Arts, Bachelor of Arts with Music, and Bachelor of Education with Music. It aims to cater to the diverse backgrounds of individuals passionate about advancing their expertise in music education.
The program admits applicants with qualifications such as Bachelor of Education (Music), Bachelor of Teacher Education (with Music), Bachelor of Arts with Education, Bachelor of Arts (Arts) with a Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) or Teacher Education (PGDTE), Bachelor of Music with a diploma in education or PGDE or PGDTE, and Bachelor of Performing Arts with a diploma in education or PGDE or PGDTE.
